Sylvester Wong joined the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Washington, D.C. as director in June 2022.
In 2007, Sylvester joined the Civil Service of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Since then he has served in the Home Affairs Department, Education Bureau, Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau, and Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau.
Sylvester attended in 2013 a government-sponsored 3-month training course at the Elliott School of International Affairs, The George Washington University.
During 2016 to 2020, Sylvester was on secondment to the Secretariat of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation in Singapore. Upon his return to Hong Kong in 2020, he took up the role as Assistant Head of the Policy Innovation and Coordination Office.
Immediately prior to this post, he was the Principal Assistant Secretary for Food and Health at the Food and Health Bureau responsible for overseeing the Designated Quarantine Hotel Scheme.
Sylvester holds two bachelor degrees in BBA (Information System) and BEng (Software Engineering) from the University of Hong Kong, and is an MBA graduate of the National University of Singapore. He is also a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and a member of Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).
He enjoys travelling, playing violin, watching movies and meeting new friends from different backgrounds.
